Ever since I was a little baby, my summers were always spent by the ocean. School was out, we'd pack up the car (think five kids, a dog, and my parents) and start driving. I had no worries in the world, only the excitement of seeing my friends I hadn't seen in almost a year. After ten hours of straight driving, we would roll down the windows and take it all in. We had finally arrived! We were in "Vacationland," we were in Maine.

Whenever I head anywhere with salt air, I'm at my happiest. It's been a week and I'm still reminiscing about my trip to California.  Here I am on the beach (hi again!) with a big smile on my face. Are you headed to the beach this summer? Would love to hear where you're headed!

Travel Diaries: Malibu

Taking a little dip.

wine on the beach
We love home cooked meals so we spent a lot of time picking up fresh ingredients and cooking dinner together. The place where we stayed had a kitchen with just about everything imaginable which made things very convenient.

Eating fresh fruit on your balcony overlooking the ocean is an experience in itself.

beach love
Whenever I am on vacation I always have a little too much fun playing in the sand. When I was younger, I enrolled myself in sand sculpture classes. Yuuup.

adamson house malibu
A fountain from the Adamson House - a California historical landmark. Built in 1929, the house has the most breathtaking display of decorative tiles I have ever seen.

Each morning we would start the day to the sound of crashing waves, drink a cup of coffee and get our bodies in motion.

A little "June Gloom." I had not heard of this phrase until we touched down at LAX. The first two days were blue skies, the remainder, not so much. Needless to say, our next trip will have to be post June.

If you've been following me on Instagram, there is a good chance that you are aware that I recently went on a beach vacay. First off, I apologize for the influx of blue skies and sandy beaches while you were all working away like busy bees at your job. As a gift in return, I expect you all to fill your feed with vacation pictures.

KK - With that said, in case you haven't been following me, I just returned from much needed week of serious R&R in California. When people asked me what I was planning to do, I told them "a whole lot of nothing." I am happy to report that I did just that. Sure, I did a few touristy things, but for the most part, I chilled. (Wow, I haven't used that word since high school, I'm still clearly feeling "chilled out").

When my boyfriend and I were trying to decide where we wanted to go, we thought long and hard about it. He needed somewhere where he could ride (cycling is his religion and faithfully subscribes to rule #5 in everything he does). I, on the other hand, needed somewhere quiet where I could relax beachside without a lot of action. We knew we wanted to go somewhere in Southern California, and in the end we narrowed it down to a few different places.  In the end, we decided that with the easy access to hills for climbing and beaches for laying, Malibu was our perfect destination.

I'm going to share more details about my trip later, but to sum it all up in an elevator pitch: I went for runs along the PCH, ate at great little spots, caught up on reading, watched the surfers (literally could watch these guys all day!), and lay on the beach. The perfect week.

Here I am above frolicking along the beach (hi guys!) I have a few photos of me getting owned pretty hard by some massive waves (I decided not to share these).  Note to bloggers from a blogger: be aware of your surroundings at all times. With a whole lots of salt water in my lungs, I learned my lesson.
