Jacket: Club Monaco (old) / Tank: Joe Fresh (similar) / Skirt: J Crew / Bag: H&M (love this one!) / Bracelets: Hermes / J Crew Earrings: Banana Republic / Sunnies: Karen Walker / Ring: Vintage / Shoes: Zara / Watch: c/o Daniel Wellington (use code CURATEDBYAMY for 15% off)

Let's talk about sales. Let me start by saying there is an art to sale shopping. Sure, that dress at 75% off seems like a start-the-car type of moment, but there is a reason its on sale.

It's easy to justify your purchase by saying something along the lines of "Well, I just saved $100." NEWSFLASH: that's your inner shopaholic speaking. You just spent (lost) $100 and have a dress you'll wear once - if you're lucky. Been there, done that.

I have a new rule when sale shopping: only buy timeless staples. I scored this No. 2 J Crew Pencil Skirt, my all-time favourite pencil skirt, in an array of different colours, on sale! I rationalized the purchase(s) by the following:

1. I can wear them into fall by adding jackets and sweaters
2. They'll still be in style come spring/summer 2015, 2016, 2017… you get the picture

Even though summer has long past, I still love incorporating colour into my wardrobe. If you work in a creative environment like myself, it's a playful twist to an otherwise black, navy or grey look.

After reasoning with myself, I was sold.
