the little things

It's true what they say: It's the little things that make life so wonderful. Here are a few of the little things scattered throughout my home that make me smile each day.

A heart dish: This little heart came all the way from Sweden. It's the perfect place to hold my rings.

A 19th century tray: Something I found while antiquing in Maine at The Farm Antiques. One of my favourite places to showcase my current Essie faves.

Silver tray: This was my great-grandmothers. I love waking up to this each morning.

Happy Family Day! Hope you all had a lovely long weekend. I spent the majority of my time with family and friends (indoors). It was perfect.

There are so many reasons why I love living in Canada.  Besides the overall amazing quality of life, I love the change of seasons. My favourite being fall, followed by spring, winter and summer. Yup, that's right - summer is my least favourite season. I don't really have a good explanation for this, but I think it might have to do with the heat (some of you may start to question my sanity).

Of course with the changing of the seasons comes the changing of ones own wardrobe. I have to admit, I have a slight obsession with cold weather dressing. More specifically, a slight obsession with winter coats. Winter lends the perfect excuse to expand my collection (after all, a girls gotta be warm.) This burgundy number is one of my current faves. As much as I am over winter, I am going to be sad to pack them away.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Candle: diptyque Paris Rosa Mundi / Nailpolish: Essie - Lollipop / Heart Box: Tiffany - Elsa Peretti / Perfume: Victor&Rolf - Flowerbomb / Lipstick: Stila - Stay All Day Liquid Liptick in Fiery / Good Morning Beautiful/Handsome Mug: Indigo / Card: Papyrus / Champagne: Veuve Clicquot Rose / Socks: Joe Fresh / iPhone Case: Kate Spade / Macarons: Nadege

I haven't quite decided how I feel about Valentine's Day. Part of me says that it's become too commercial. The other part of me gravitates towards heart shapes, lip prints, chocolate, sweets, champagne, gifts... Ok - clearly one part of me trumps the other. No matter what I try to tell myself (and try being the operative word), I clearly have some sort of weakness for the day. I've put together a list of cute gifts to give/receive this Valentine's Day for that last minute shopper.

Oh, and I do apologize in advance to all those that do not live in the GTA. Nadege is simply, for no better word to put it, amazing.  A must for anyone visiting.

Svenkst Tenn: Linen Pillows

Svenskt Tenn Linen Pillows

Svenskt Tenn Linen Pillows

From an early age, I have been immersed in the world of design (my father, an architect - my mother, an interior designer). After many years of observing my mother, I detected one reoccurring theme: she loves combining the old with the new, which is what Svenskt Tenn's philosophy is all about. Svenskt Tenn is an interior design company located in Stockholm, and has to be one of my all-time favourite stores. Whenever my mother visits, she always picks me out something special. Recently, I was gifted two of these lovely linen pillows in dark pink. They're as much elegant, as they are bold, and are the perfect splash of colour for my living room.

Coffee Table Books

I recently moved from an elegant historic apartment with 10 foot ceilings, a beautiful fire place and a large bay window. Even without any furniture or art, the place felt so warm and inviting.

Now living in a modern condo, I am trying to find new ways to achieve warmth and colour in what started out as a blank canvas. I've added table lamps in an attempt to minimize the harsh lighting, adorned the walls with art, covered the floors with rugs, placed personal photographs on every free surface I could possibly find, and expanded my collection of coffee table books. Books have the ability to add instant coziness and personality to any room (including a concrete one at that). They are a bit of an investment, but amazon offers some great deals and ships right to your front door.  These are a few of my favourites.

My Favourite Beauty Products

I know everyone is different, but the vast majority of people I have spoken with recently all have one thing in common: they are "so over winter." I hear ya.

I can't wait for spring. This winter is really taking a toll on my mood, not to mention complexion. These are my favourite products to combat dullness. Take that winter!
